Just as not every accountant is as good as the next, or not everyone is a great teacher (we all remember the good ones and bad ones we had at school)...not all therapists are the same.
You need to be comfortable with your therapist, how they work and you need to trust them. If I do not resonate with you, I have suggestions for well-respected colleagues on my home page that I would recommend you reach out to.
You need to find someone who you connect with to get maximum benefit from your sessions.
I am science trained and have worked in science communication and engagement for over two decades. Because of this, I approach my services and therapy with this lens (evidence-based) while blending psychology and also bringing my strong intuitive and healing gifts to our sessions.
I am a warm, kind, bubbly and inclusive person. I have walked a path of lived experience in mental and physical health issues and have seen and felt what blended modalities and clinical hypnotherapy can do around physical and mental healing and wellbeing. It is these reasons I am so passionate about these systems and what they can do for humans seeking help.
Our bodies are wise, they know more that we often give them credit for. In our sessions I am your guide , holding space for you, supporting you, and enabling you to heal yourself.
Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice that uses hypnosis to help individuals address a variety of physical, emotional, and psychological issues. It involves guiding a person into a deeply relaxed and focused state of awareness (often referred to as a trance) where they become more receptive to positive suggestions and insights. It is not mind-control and nothing you do not agree to can be undertaken.
Key Aspects of Clinical Hypnotherapy:
Hypnosis:
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation.
Contrary to popular myths, individuals in a hypnotic state remain fully aware and in control of their actions.
Therapeutic Approach:
Hypnotherapists work collaboratively with their client to explore and address specific challenges, such as stress, anxiety, phobias, or habits like smoking.
Techniques may include guided imagery, affirmations, or exploring subconscious thoughts to reframe beliefs and behaviours.
Evidence-Based Practice:
Clinical hypnotherapy is often supported by research and is used in medical, psychological, and wellness settings.
It has been shown to be effective in managing pain, reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and treating conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Customisation:
Sessions are tailored to the individual's needs, goals, and challenges.
Certification and Regulation:
In Australia, clinical hypnotherapists typically undergo specialised training and certification.
It is important to work with a qualified practitioner who adheres to ethical and professional standards.
Common Applications of Clinical Hypnotherapy:
Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and phobias.
Behavioural Changes: Smoking cessation, weight management, and overcoming procrastination.
Pain Management: Chronic pain, migraines, and recovery from surgery.
Stress Reduction: Managing daily stress and promoting relaxation.
Medical Conditions: IBS, skin conditions, and preparation for medical or dental procedures.
Clinical hypnotherapy is not mind control or magic but a collaborative and empowering tool to facilitate personal growth, healing, and well-being.
The initial intake session is when we will go through your history and your reasons for making an appointment. This is quite similar when you attend any other medical or allied health appointment. If we have time, then sometimes we will do a short hypnosis session so you can experience the therapy.
Follow up sessions often start with a check in of how you are and then may involve a hypnotherapy session, counselling, energy healing or a combination of these based on what you need at the time and what we have planned in your course of treatment.
I personally really enjoy the experience of being under hypnosis.
It often feels like being simultaneously physically and mentally relaxed while being focussed.
It has been likened to the feelings we experience just before waking completely from sleep or just as we drift off to sleep. Some people say it feels like daydreaming or being pleasantly detached from the world.
When in hypnosis, people experience a state of complete mental, physical and emotional relaxation. In itself, this is a very healing state.
No.
